So I got a Biocube 29 about a month ago from a buddy of mine, live rock, about 15 gallons of live water...15 fresh water...and some coral, pretty sweet deal all in all. Anyways, the biocube came with the small protein skimmer (Sears: Online department store featuring appliances, tools, fitness equipment and more), which is currently in the second chamber, surrounded by bioballs.

Now, my plans for upgrades include:

LED upgrades for the tank (something similar to this - http://www.ledsupply.com/docs/reef-tank_diy-instructions.pdf),

and either a chaeto refegium or an upgraded protein skimmer in that second chamber (something like this - CPR SR3 Protein Skimmer - fits BioCube 29 Gallon - SR3 - AquaBuys.com) - I would add two leds as a light source for the refegium when I upgraded my whole system too LEDs.

I also am currently having some serious algae problems...think I have been overfeeding...also the rocks from a friend came from a long time refegium and could have some algae issues from that.

Anyways, as a beginner I am not sure which would be more beneficial to the well being of my tank...the refegium or the upgraded protein skimmer...also please let me know if it is even worth upgrading to the new protein skimmer, or if the one I have is good enough.

I could also add a seperate refegium off of the back of my tank, but do not like the way it looks, and would rather have in that second chamber...kind of limited on space as well, and adding a refegium off of the back is gunna make it pretty tight in the space I have available.

    I appreciate any input
