    I chose not to use optics. I didn't want the "spot light" effect. No optics allows the light to spread out so it very evenly mixes just below the water line (you can still see some spot lighting artifacts on the back wall up to about 3" down, after that, it blends together). 19 Cree 3W LEDs are way more than the tank needs, so I definitely don't need to concentrate that light at all. Also, very little light spill out of the tank.
