carefull with the biocubes, a lot of them the ballasts will go out... they will replace if it breaks, or you could take the top off and put on a hang out mh

ohkay thanks everyone, but what if i were trying to make like a refugium in the back?????

my friend that i bought it off of said that his brother in law did that.......idk how but i would really like to know if itss worth it ????

im sorry but i dont think i understand......ill put my questions down here

1 you guys say to take the bioballs out and not put them back in ????

2 and the tray that is on top of them put carbon bag on there???

3 on the right i put the filter cartridge????

4 on the far left is is where the open area is and do i need to put a maxi jet and connect it to the flow tube thingy on there ( sorry dont know what to call it )

5 ad where should i have the skimmer flow into ??? the section with the bioballs ?? or does it really matter ?

biocube has 3 chambers in the back. take the bioballs out and replace with live rock rubble or some sort of media. 2 jars of seachem media is what i used. then place some carbon bags over top of the rubble. and now place the polyfilter on top of everything and i still use the plastic crate to diperse water all over the poly.

you can buy an oceanic protein skimmer made for the biocube 14 / 29 gallon. not the best but does a decent job for 50 bucks.

    good luck.

As far as a refugium i have seen it done but i have no experience with that but definately google it. and check other forums.

my bioballs are sitting on tray and under that tray is nothing the there is th tray on top is that right ?????

what does the maximum and minimum on the side mean????

sorry just couple more things ...... i dont have the instruction booklet or anything so i figured i could turn to u guys.

on the far right i have the filter cartridge.....white part facing the bioballs. then on the far left i have the powerhead/oceanic jet (whatever you want to call it) hooked up to a tube which leads to the flow at the top where it comes out .......... is all this right ???????

using bioballs or other filter media is up to you. personally i prefer the rubble.

if you want to keep the bioballs then you may need to take some out to make room for a carbon bag and poly filter. as long as you have both of these in then you can get rid of the dinky filter insert cartridge.by getting rid of the filter cartridge you make room for a skimmer on the far right chamber. the plastic screen that goes on top of everything can still be used.

the min and max are levels at which your water should be in order for your filter system to wrok properly. be ready to add water to the middle chamber and keep an eye on the water level to make sure you dont go below MIN. above max isnt bad; but just under max is what i set it at. If you are way over max and the water level isnt dropping then slowly take water out of the main tank and the water should slowly go down. If you are at or below min add water to middle chamber until the water level stays. ( the middle chamber is also where you would topoff with freshwater for evaporated water)

good luck and feel free to ask more questions.

the method im talking about is a semi customized filter method most biocube owners go with for better quality water given the limitation of the biocube.

If you want to keep it simple then you are doing everything just fine but do follow the intruction on water levels. But be ready for more frequent maintance smaller system like thes can imbalance fairly quickly, this means water changes/ filter changes/ dosing of chemicals on a more regular basis. its more work in my opinion.
