My colors haven't been what I want, so I purchased Red Sea Color Pro Reef Test Kit. There are many different variables to color in the Reef tank but I wanted to know for sure if my reef was suffocating of certain trace elements. The three elements this kit tests for are the simple building blocks for colors in your tank.

Below are my results using Reef Crystals Salt for the past 3 months, I plan to switch over to Seachem Reef Salt next week.

    Potassium - <150ppm (Goal = 380ppm)
    Iodine - 0.03 (Goal = 0.06)
    Iron - 0 (Goal = 0.15)

Test kit thread can be found here:

I would send off for a proper analysis before acting on any of this... this is exactly how tank crashes start. It's only like $40.

I saw something like that a few months ago, I plan to change my salt mix at first before I dose anything.... Thanks for the tip :)

Smart move. Water changes would be my first suggestion for how to right it, if in fact it is deficient.

Every chemist I know involved with the hobby blows off all the hobbiest potassium tests available as unreliable.

Thats a bummer, these kits seemed to get good reviews. When I get back from Milwaukee I plan to test a fresh batch of Seachem Reef Salt. They claim to have 425ppm Potassium(1.023SG), id like to see how close this kit comes to that.

But to be honest, I don't want to dose anything separately. My goal is to find the right salt for my tank over the next few moths. As the weeks go past my ALK & Ca can't even keep up at 29ml per day (each). The export of trace minerals in this tank have drastically expanded over the past month.
