How much bioload would a sandsifting goby add to the tank? (relative to adding a regular fish like a clown or tang)

would the goby not impact the tank as much since he's a cleaner?

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
It has more to do with size IMO. The sand sifting goby is going to eat what it can when you feed the other fish. Sand sifting gobies can not live soley on the sandbed unless it is a large established tank.

Some of the sandsift gobies like the sleeper goby get easily get as big or bigger than a clownfish.

Why are you interested in this fish ? If for the sandsifting reasons, I think you be better of getting some of the sand stirring snails instead.

Yea I was interested in it for the cleaning reasons. I have the snails and they're stirring the sand pretty well but none of them are cleaning the surface of the sand, only stirring the substrate.

Any other inverts good for cleaning substrate?

Tiger tailed cucumber. Really stir it up IME. You have to keep an eye on them though, they like to go in the sump, or as gabbagabbawill can a test too the power heads every once in a great while. And honestly they are ugly, but they get the job done.

cant answer how much bioload the sand sifting gobies add. but can tell you they do a great job keeping the sand looking white. i do have snails and a sand sifting star. but they mainly stay in the sand and not so much on top of it as the goby does. my blue dot sleeper goby is well worth the bioload it causes. besides they are awesome fish who like to look at you when your in the room. a lot like a jawfish does.
