I have read rumours of them and I have seen photos which appear to be bioluminescent, but I haven't identified any specific varieties yet.
The hosts get light or food depending on the host. Squid get light to hide their shadow, flashlight fish get light to see, and symbiotic colonies get food from photosynthesis. The bioluminescent organism in symbiosis gets a home and nutrients from the host in both examples. Especially when the host adds the photosynthetic organisms to its calcium skelton.
Like algae on a crab shell gets nitrates and phosphates from the crab. ( not true symbiosis ) but in a small biosphere like an aquarium its difficult to deny the mutual benefits, photosynthetic organisms reduce nitrates and increase oxygen while herbivores eat plants while providing nitrates and phosphates.

The only bioluminescent anemones I can find are deeeeep water cold water species... Such as the tube anemone. And the Venus fly trap anemone is debatable. But no strong evidence.

On a side note the red flame scallops have a very attractive display of lightning electricity, resembling the light show of many jellyfish. However not bioluminescent.

It is a dry heat, yeah right !

If it's not bioluminescent what is it?

From what I understand its a reflection or refraction from a very thin flap of tissue and can only be seen when there is light to reflect.

Here the lightning bolts are caught on camera ... in the center

About the Hawaiian Bobtail Squid (Euprymna scolopes)‪:
More tolerant of warm water, easily collected locally in Hawaii, very difficult to find online. Possibly special ordered from a pet store in Hawaii? But I don't see any in the online suppliers just yet.

Collection in Hawaii is hit and miss at best. Squids are hard to keep in the average hobbyist aquarium.

I can not find any hard and fast documentation as to the mechanism that allows Flame Scallops to flash.

Thanks for taking an interest and helping with this research Corailline. Its not easy to read thru all the advertising and find the precious few gems of usable information.

    My pleasure. :)

It's interesting stuff. Some nights when the moon is dark and you walk the beach you can see the luminescence with each wave crash, it always fascinated me. If you have ever lived on a boat or been on long trips on a boat if your using the head in the middle of the night when you flush the whole bowl lights up green ( I am easily amused).
Wave action or just water tumbling seems to make these bacteria and or algae glow more intensely.
