Hi everyone, I've been using Reef Biofuel which is a form of carbon dosing similar to vodka. But recently i've purchased a biopellet reactor with bio pellets in them, so my question is, can i still continue dosing reef biofuel without any ill effects, or can my bio pellets take it from here on?

I kinda would hate throwing away my reef biofuel though, its got quite alot left.

I'm still kind of unclear with the amount of additives your putting in that tank.

Additives: It's Clear!, Coralline Stimulator, PO4 eliminator, Microbacter7, Reef Bio-Fuel, Reef Calcium, Reef Carbonate (only added when my Alkalinity levels drop), Reef Magnesium.

You don't have very much coral so I'd assume you'd be able to currently sustain the system with good feeding and water changes still at this point.
You're gonna have another crash if you keep dumping stuff in there that you don't need.

With the reactor you won't need to dose and make sure you give the output of it to the skimmer...

That being said, you're looking for another crash by using bio pellets IMHO...
You really don't even have enough to be dosing vodka I don't think.

Hopefully some more well versed folks can chime in as well.

I'd say stick with a great salt and water change schedule (and maintenance) for the time being. Let the tank stabilize for a few months before you mess with the plastics reactor...

Actually the pellets will be safer as they are a solid carbon source. If you have been consistantly dosing a carbon source it should be an easy transition. I recommend Warner Marine EcoBAK as I have had great long term results.

It looks like Fat******* know your husbandry from other posts of yours. If what he is saying is the case I would recommend the following:
    It's Clear! - don't need it
Coralline Stimulator - don't need it! if your parameters are spot on, it will grow on it's own
PO4 eliminator - if you were dosing, you should not need it (have you tested for Phosphate?
Microbacter7 - If you must dose bacteria, I would look into Dr. Tim's bacteria as it is far more effective.
Reef Bio-Fuel - don't need at all if running pellets, If you want to dose a carbon source, expert Randy Holmes Farley recommends vinegar

The following would be best if you replaced them with a good two part. A good two part will keep the calcium, alk and mag and strontium in balance. The best part is you add them at equal proportions and you should be able to get away with only testing for alk and dosing equal amounts of each part. I use the Warner Marine Calcmax however the ESV (not a 3reef sponsor :() is also very good.

Reef Calcium - if not testing for it, don't dose. Overdosing on calcium could drive down alk.
Reef Carbonate (only added when my Alkalinity levels drop) - see above as to why you alk may be low.
Reef Magnesium - if not testing for it, don't dose

If you have a low stony coral load, water changes are more than enough to make up for your dosing. There are many beautiful tanks out there that dose absolutely nothing.

that's true, urgh restraint isn't one of my strong points.

i feel so gullible for buying those additives, grr.

PS: i'm thinking the pellets might help keep my nitrates down? because my nitrates are kinda on the high side. 40 ppm
