Biowheel Filters??

    i have an emperor 400 with 2 bio wheels in it. i've noticed that some people are removing the actual wheel and just using the filter. why is this?? am i missing something? help me understand...

    The reason people are removing the bio wheels is that they dont need the biological filtration as this creates nitrates which are not desirable in a reef tank. Thats why I always recommend the penguin filters over the emporer's because if you want to remove the bio wheels you dont have to worry about the spray bars making so much noise with the wheels removed.

    I have the marineland one (smallest model) intended for a QT. I had it running on my fuge while QT are not needed to 'store' the bio load, so I can just set up the QT with the water from tank and that filter. Is it OK? Should I not do it?
