I have a birdnest coral that has been in my tank for a little over a month. It has had continued polyp extension but has been becoming whiter and whiter. It seems to be growing still but the color is just not there. Other sps corals are doing fine.
    Params are
    Alk 8.2
    Cal 450
    Mg 1440
    Salinity 1.024
    Temp 78.5
    Ph 8.01
    4 t5 ati bulbs. 110 gallon tank.
    Any suggestions?
O and the coral is located about 8 inches below water surface.

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
If you have had the coral for over a month I would just ride it out unless you start to see tissue loss.

If it is growing and has PE I would wait and see if it colors up.

You can always move it down to less intense lighting, it will probably color up faster.

Posting an image always helps though.

Attached is a pic of how it looks today. My apologies for the poor picture but it was via my phone. You can still see the lack of color particularly around the middle.

You are bleaching it. Move it down.

Ok I thought so I just wasn't to sure. It came from a metal halide tank so I figured it needed to be up top as it was in theirs. But thank you for the insight.

There are a lot of variables when it comes to lighting. One of the variables is reflectors. Without good reflectors, just like with T5, MH isn't that impressive. A person with high quality reflectors running 175 Watt MH can get just as good penetration and PAR as someone running 250 or even 400 watt MH depending on bulbs as well. In the future, I would certainly suggest starting any coral closer to the bottom on your tank and slowly move it up.

Birdsnest usually don't need a lot of light. So move it down and/or move it horizontally away from the light source. It will recover just fine, give it time.

Ok, I moved it down about six to seven inches. I will see how that does and adjust accordingly. Thank you for everyone's help.
