I Changed my backround to black because I thought it would look unique with black sand substrate. It also hides the intake tube of the filter and the skimmer a lot better, and the colors of the fish and the live rock really pop out. What do you guys think? is it too much black? Should I change my substrate to white sand? or keep it as is?

I did the black on black with my tank. It makes it sexy.

Personally, I like it. The black background seems to give the tank more depth, and the fishes colors appear to be brighter against the black substrate.

    Definitely looking good.

I like the background (especially since I have it too :) ) however I think with the black sand it makes it too dark. Either way it's still nice!

Ilioe the black on black too and had it in my 90 just rough keeping the sand clean. When I went barebottom I painted the back and bottom black.

Thanks guys. I like it too, I just wanted some second opinions because this is my first saltwater tank and I wasn't too sure if this kind of look would work with saltwater or not. My next coral I think will be a Sun Coral which I think will look brilliant against the black.

i agree i think it looks good. although black sand is harder to keep looking clean.
ive heard that the black sand has low levels of iron it it that cause it to not be as saltwater freindly as it should be. Not sure where i heard this, or if its even true. maybe someone has more info on this.

I haven't been having any trouble keeping the sand looking clean because my 5 hermit crabs and the brittle stars and snails from my live rock do a wonderful job. I do siphon what I see when I do a water change which keeps it looking clean.

i was just reading a bit more about this and from what the great world wide web is saying is it isnt argonite sand and it contains iron in it which can fuel some algae outbreaks. not saying thats the truth just shedding some light on whats going around about it. i think your tank looks great though!

I agree all the way around! Looks good! It brings out the colors of the fish brilliantly and its sexy! I have a black back ground with white crushed coral rock and thinking about switching to black sand or at least throw some in there to make it look cleaner and sexy! ;D
