Black day

My p cilliata mantis King julian died at the weekend. I blame myself because i fed him a freshwater guppy on saturday night and on sunday morning he was dead i had my concerns about feeding a freshwater fish but the guys at the shop said it would be fine anyway its too late now. let me know if you think it was the cause also suggestions are welcome on what to put in the tank now with my clownfish i dont think i can hold out for another mantis it took too long to get that one.

 

Sorry about your loss. As for the freshwater fish I don't think that was the reason. But I admit I don't know a lot about mantis shrimp, so I could be wrong. Just seems weird that it would kill him.

 

yeah i didnt think it would be that but i cant put my finger on anything else params are fine and my clownfish and hermits and snails all fine so who knows maybe just natural causes

 

We have lots of mantis owners on here. Maybe they can shed more light on the problem.

 

Was it a live feeder guppy or a dead diseased one. I sometimes feed the dead fish from my feshwater to my shrimp or purple lobster. I gave a dying tiger barb to my coral banded yesterday who at part of it and let it go, it went to my purple lobster and then after it was done it got finished off by the snails and hermits. Havent had any ill effects but am now a bit skeptical after reading this, and since I've only done it a few times

it was live is there any disease a live 1 could be carrying that could cause this

 

If he has eaten things that large before and over gorging is ruled out then chalk it up to co-incedents and go get king julian the II.

 

i dont think id ever find another 1 here i only found that 1 by chance mantis seem to be fround upon in the uk so any other suggestions on what to put in a 12 gal with a clown fish.
