Black encrusting stuff

    I've seen this for a while. It's black and grows very slow...any guesses?

    looks like a sponge Gras :) and if im not mistaken the black sponges are known for being real-estate hogs ;)

    even though it grows really slow, I am leary of it. I've heard bad things about black sponges...........

    really...coco worm? cool! I thought normal feather duster, but actually in the full pic, it's above the worm on the rock

    Nah, thats not a bad sponge, that type grows slowly, it comes in many other colors than black. Get Julian Sprung's Invertebrates book, that will demystify a lot of things for you. ;]
