I think my regal tang has come down with black ich...being that black ich is actually a worm and not like white ich crypto at all I was wondering if my regal stays healthy and continues to eat will she eventually fight off the black ich the same way she could the crypto? Or do I def. need to catch her and give her some treatment...i just dont wanna stress her more than she needs to be...PLEASE let me know...I need an abundance of opinions so i can make my decision on what i need to do ASAP....
I am soaking all the food for the tank in garlic...I am keeping garlic soaked Nori and other seaweed in the tank at all times for grazing, and I have started to feed the tank more than usual to up the feedings to keep her healthy...she is active and eating great...She is also letting the cleaner wrasse do his thing...but she is scraping on a old conch shell every once in a while too....i just want my tang to get thru this i love my fish and this is terrible to watch....Oh and no other tank mates have "gotten" it yet either.

Black Ich is best treated in a hospital tank with Formalin. Are you sure it's black ich? Can you attach a picture?

Because outdated Formalin breaks down into poisonous compounds, you always want a new bottle.

Freshwater dips are sometimes useful but not always.

Yeah, that looks like black ich. I would try a FW dip first and see how effective it is?

BTW, that looks like a baby remora in the picture with your tang. Is it? If so, are you aware of how big they get?

Good. It looked flat enough on the top to be a remora and I guess it was in the foreground so it looked quite large in relation to the tang.

Will black ich pass like crypto tho...because I havea 125g mixed reef (over 200lbs of live rock) and that fish isnt dumb enough to just get caught...i think chasing it around the tank or trying to trap it might stress the other fish into submission of the ich...and cause a whole tank outbreak...if it will pass on its own (if the fish stays healthy) thats the route I would rather take...but I havent been able to find ANYTHING on whether it will be able to get over it like crypto or not....

dont stress the fish, just wait. if it clears up, it clears up. if it spreads, it spreads. It sucks but you are right, you don't want to be chasing the fish all over and you don't want your other fish to get it either.
I lost a whole tank to the stuff because I was "too involved" in tying to get rid of it that I gave it to the rest of the tank (lost 6 fish, very expensive lesson)

    How does everything look today?

Well you probably won't like my advise but I am with you on the chasin around, and I am not a believer of fresh water dips either when it comes to white spot but in the case of black spot I am. My yellow tang got black ich within a week of introducing him, I talked to one of my Lfs and he said that the black ich is actually alot easier to get rid of and to do a freshwater dip and I added melafix. After just one dip and one treatment of melafix it was completly gone in one day and has not returned. Just thought I would share the experiance that I had with it and what worked for me. Hope everything works out for you.
