So i was at the pet store earlier looking at there new shipment. Nothing that great but i was craving a new addition. I was walking through the freshwater remembering back to my fw days, and saw this cook black lyrtail mollie with a sailfin. Sooo i brought it home with me and have been acclimating him for the past 6 hours. I'm about ready to dump him into the fuge and see if he makes it through to the morning. I hope he makes it, i've been uping the salinity very slowly and he seems to be doing fine with it, and he's in water within .01 of my tank so i'm gonna see how he takes the plunge! Wish me luck...

Well he's in... Seems to be a little stressed. But he is swimming around inspecting things a bit. At least he didn't croak right away.

    Good Luck. ;)

FWIW, I have in the past acclimated mollies from fresh to sw using the typical turkey baster method in just a couple of hours. They are extremely durable, and seem to stay happier and healthier in brackish or sw than in fresh.

    Cheers

Well he's still kicking this morning. I think hes still a little stressed, but hes still doing ok. I was going to put him into the display this morning, but i think i'll give him a few days alone in the fuge before moving him to the display.

Awesome. Yea i haven't had a problem with algae now for several months. But towards the end of last week i stated getting some cayano. I think its due to me over feeding a little due to the fact i was getting over confident in my system to handle it, and i think i had some snail deaths. So i figured the mollie could help with that and its cheap as heck. Looks pretty cool too.

Do you guys have any coral? If so, what? I am curious as I have discussed this topic before and the concern was that we didn't know for certain if the Mollies would nip/eat certain coral.

Yea i do. Zoas, softies, LPS, shrooms. We'll see what happens if it has a taste for coral i'll just have a permanent resident fuge fish. Hes swimming all over place now, i think he's finally come around. I'll put him in the display tonight and post updates on what happens.

Here is the fine specimen himself. He would barely sit still long enough to get a photo. So thats a good sign i guess!

Well, unfortunate news... The black mollie and my hawkfish didn't get along. I put the fish into the display at night to try to avoid any immediate confrontation, which worked. I had class at 8am and by the time i got back to my house at 11 the mollie had basically no fins left. I scooped him out and put him back into the fuge, but it was too late. An hour later he was stuck to the foam prefilter on the return pump. Guess i wont be trying that again unless i decide to keep it as a permanent sump fish. I almost brought it back to petco to get a warranty fish, but i felt to bad doing that ha ha.
