HI there, I'm looking at having black volcanic live sand as the bottom to my reef tank and I am wondering which is the best, darkest black sand to get and where to get it? I found that Tahitian Moon sand is good...wondering which is the best and darkest black in color.

    Thanks
    Chris

Good deal! Glad I was able to help.

Good luck with setting up the tank!

Something to note, when I was in the LFS I asked about the black sand, they said that it pulled a lot of the colors, but also hid some that lighter sand would pull out.

I am not 100% sure which colors they are referring to or if this is true or not, but I did do a mix of sand. My original plan was to go light and sandy though....so the mix really isn't that surprising. I had someone from another LFS recommend the black (they didn't have it in stock) and actually sent me to the store where I purchased it. I used a 20lb bag of each type.

One thing I do like is that it becomes darker/lighter as I clean the sand bed.

I am sure whatever you do it will look awesome, so good luck!

Thanks! Added the CaribSea sand and now looking for a finer grain black sand to mix. Looming for real volcano black sand if that is possible.
