    I just used some cheapo black sand from our local pet store dump. it worked really good and was crystal clear within a few hours. I did rinse it. it is SUPER FINE and it caught air when i put it in with the water. floated alot.

    While I have never used black sand I do know white sand takes a lot of rinsing.Is it possible you just didn't rinse it well enough??:confused:
    Your tank looks great either way.8)
