Couldn't tell you how much it is going to cost. IMO It is hard to pull off. Tanks that are done right with B/S look really good. Tanks that aren't don't. I've tried it before and hated it. Try and find as many pics as you can with B/S substrate to give you ideas. It's quite a commitment. Good luck to you and can't wait for the pics.

Look on supply sites like Drsfostermith.com, plan on getting 75-80 pounds of it.

I'll tell you from my experience, the 'Tahiti Moon' sand or whatever they call the black sand is a detritus nightmare. Don't get me wrong in theory all sand can and will act the same(granted grade is the same) but we have a tank here at the shop that has the black sand and I'm not sure what it is about it but it traps detritus like no ones business. The other tanks is no where close. My guess is the small grade that it is. Also it was a nightmare to clean prior to adding to the tank. BUT in its defense it does look very slick esp when you have like a Flame Angel or similar fish that really POPs due to the black sand. All I would recommend is if you use it keep the sand bed relatively shallow, at least thats what I'd recommend going off my exp.

Good luck and post some pics when done!
