Black tar looking stuff

    Hey guys im noticing that there is an area on one of my live rocks where a black (almost tar looking piece is going flush with the rock. its about a inch in circumference. Sorry for not having a pic i cant get a good shot of it. Any ideas as to what it is?

    well, it means you have too many nutrients in your tank.. so yes, it is. However, it is something that can be corrected fairly easy.. just a matter of solving the underlying problem.
    If it is a sponge, then it is totally harmless :p

    a bad picture would help more than nothing :p

    I have some sponge in my tank that is so dark purple it almost looks black. When I touch it its kinds fuzzy feeling. How about that stuff you have...have you tried to touch it?

    And i felt it and it does feel fuzzy.
