I have had my black urchin for about 6 months now with no problems that I knew of.. About 2 weeks ago I lost a chalice frag, now idea how it died... Then yesterday I saw a full head on my acan colony completely gone.. No idea how it happened.. So last night once the lights went out. I saw my urchin munchin on another head!! Just an Fyi for everyone..

Diadema urchins are generally considered reef safe. If your is eating coral, it's likely starving (i.e. too big for the food available in your tank).

Yeah I agree, I have had two of the for two years and never had a problem with them. Since I got them I have been tossing a couple of sheets of Norri in the tank once a week. It sometimes takes them a day or two to find it but once they do the take care of it pretty quickly. Mine will also eat Leaf lettuce, I used to put some in the tank for the tang that I was taking care of for a friend and they usually would munch on it if they found the leftovers on the bottom of the tank.

Na.. It has been steadily growing for the last 6 months.. Just started eating my acans now. It has always been feed. I don't think it's a guarantee that they won't eat them..

Agreed- exactly what I do, I also add algae from my sump from time to time. I bought this fellow (long spine) to prevent all that purple crap (coraline algae) that some people like- I do not- it causes more harm then good IMHO.

Mind you they will eat zoa's too.

Mine just indiscriminately eats through anything.... they don't care what it is. If it's in their path... it's game.
