How much bleach do you fellas use to clean your filter socks? Do you then just hang them dry or do you rinse them in something to make sure to get the bleach out?

It seems like every thread around here that I could find on how to clean these takes a few things for granted.

I just use a splash (no more accurate than that) in a bucket of water hehe. Then just let it dry. If it doesn't smell like bleach anymore it's good to go, I would give it at least 24 hours of drying though personally just to be sure.

So when it dries the bleach goes inert?

My old man wiped out his 55 gal about a decade ago when he bleached his rocks and screwed up the rinse, he never got his tank back to where it was and eventually quit the hobby altogether.

So I'm naturally a little bit paranoid when it comes to bleach in a fish tank.

To clean my filter socks, I first run my washer on a 20 min spin cycle with nothing in it. Then I toss in the socks with a little bleach for the same 20 min cycle, and after that I do a third 20 min cycle with no bleach. After they have air dryed there ready for use.

I have no idea what is in chlorine free bleach. I wouldn't use it unless I read the ingredients.

For regular bleach, I just hit the rinse cycle twice and let the sock dry fully.

I just wash in bleach only (I fill the bleach tray in the washer all the way) Then when done, just let dry. Once bleach dries, it is dead. Never had any issues.

Okay, right now I only have 1 (6 more on order).

I ran it through the wash on water only, rinsed it in R/O with some prime in it, shook it off and plugged it back in.

I'll go through the bleaching when I have some spares sitting around. Thanks all.

dont let them get to dirty it is better for your tank and easier to clean the sock. all i do is run them in hot water only in the washer and they come out clean.
