I went to my LFS to get some more rock, so i met this guy who said he has alot of base rock...i said great ill take some of it...he said all i had to do is bleach it? so i said how exactly do u go about doing so ...he said get a 10 gallon tank...add water and 1 TBSP of bleach......i didnt do it yet...i still have the base rock in a 5 gallon pail. Can u guys please explain the process on how to bleach live rock or get it rdy to be cured?...i already have a 55 gallon rubbermaid pail sitting with saltwater, air line and heater, just waiting to stock it with rock.

Why did he recommend bleaching it?
If for some reason it is utterly and completely covered in say aiptasia and hair algae maybe but other than that I don't really see the need.
If you want to bleach it I would put the rock into a mild 1:10 bleach/water solution or maybe upwards to 1:5. I suppose you can go more I just wouldn't recommend it, it will be tougher to get that bleach stink out.

After it soaks I would use a wire brush and clean the rock up, if you are bleaching it there must be gunk on the rock. Brush all that off and then rinse the rock like crazy, just sit out with the garden hose and spray it like no ones business. After all that, put all rocks into a tub of water and add the appropriate amount of de-chlorinator, anything with sodium thiosulfate or sodium hydroximethane sulfinate, doesn't matter what brand. I would let sit over night and rinse one more time.
At this point it is ready to go.

I know there are more careful ways to do it or faster ways, but this is just a simple way to clean up whatever funk is on that rock.

Remember to smell for bleach before you put in the tank!!
