My lfs has 2 btas both bleached pure white. To my knowledge there is no white btas. Question how to get the bta off the rock to take home and save? The rock they are on us huge and covered with green hair algae and some kinda green slime algae. So don't want the rock for sure lol. Any saving this anemone? Still open and looks healthy with a hint of pink on the tips? But lfs and me have no idea what kind of bta this is.

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
BTA coloration is variable, although completely white is most likely bleached.

I would not spend the money on these BTA, get a healthy specimen.

Rather than rescue these inverts, better to not create a market for this type of husbandry. Show your dissatisfaction by not purchasing a failed product, that sends a stronger message.

if it is bleached and you want to buy it i would suggest getting the whole rock, avoid any extra stress. tell the LFS he is a ****** for selling bleached btas in the first place.
regarding the algae it will make a good food source for any herbivore fish you may have. slime algae should die off if you have good flow (my 2 cents) to make Zoantharia come back give the anemone regular feedings. be careful not to over feed however as decomposing food in an anemones digestive system will be deadly.

some say having a fat healthy anemone next to a bleached one will help the sharing on the symbiotic algae but as far as i know its just a theory.

+1 to corailline but if your heart is set on it and you are willing to take the risk go for it.

I completely agree with you cora. The nem wld be free more than likely he was selling them as white btas lol. Told him they were bleached and got the ol oh yea been forgetting to turn on the lights:( Good point on not creating a market for this kind of care. Never even crossed my mind. Not cool how the btas are kept.. Not a bad idea Swiss as of right now have no herbivores in the tank my kole tang comes in this week sometime. Would love to give these nems a chance but in no way do I wanna support this kind of care.

Agreed, but what happens to the nem at the end of the day?.... I'm not saying support this kind of market. If you believe this anemones requirements are not being met and you can provide a better home go for it, at least some one would have tried....otherwise it would be a real waste.

And clearly never go that Lfs again....

My thoughts exactly. Did a little research about getting a bta off a rock. Going to try today. It is the only lfs in my little town, I mostly do my purchasing online. I can see somebody actually buying it and having no idea it's not as healthy as they think.

If LFS can give them to u for free, then it would be a better. As far as bring the BTA back to its orignial color it would be very hard. I had a 12 inch RBTA at home, due to my own mistake (3 month trip away from home), when I came back, the RBTA bleached and shrinked to just about 4 inch across. I was losing my mind over it as I had it for over a year. After I reset up my system with new LED lighting. I started to bring the color back, took me about4 month to start see some clear color red in it. And after a while I have been very dedicated to feed it brimp shrimp and mysis. It had the full color back now and about 8 inch in size. It took me almost the whole year to bring it back, and I consider myself lucky cuz most bleached BTA like to hide away from lights and hide in caves where you can't target feed them and they just go worese and worse where my RBTA sits on the rock and not really moving away so I had a better chance. I hope if u got the BTA from that LFS, you are as lucky as me that the BTA didn't start walking away from the spot you want them to be.

a bleached bubble tip anemone will most likely die, regardless of the care given to it at this point. I sure wouldnt want one in my tank, especially when it dies.

It is a good thing to try to save something we find, however think about the effects it might have in your tank.

If you want to remove an aneomone..........again not recommending it on these.......it is a slow procedure. I would take packs of frozen food (cyclopeeze packs worked well) Apply the frozen package to the foot of the anemone, this will cause it to slowly retract its foot. I then very carefully work to loosen it with my nail, again adding the frozen package as I work
