I had some problems with a peppermint shrimp and my frogspawn a while ago(http://www.3reef.com/forums/asap/my-frogspawn-dying-dead-97085.html). I placed it about 1/2 way up in my tank with these lights:
    2 ATI Blue+
    2 UVL Actinic/White
    2 UVL Super Actinic

I run a 12 hour light cycle, 10 hours of full lights, and actinics come on an hour before and stay on an hour after. Thing is though, this frogspawn just doesn't have the coloration it did when I got it. Is it still recovering from being on the bring of death? Is it too much light? I am considering moving it to be bottom where it was before to see if that helps.

Another question, how soon will I be able to tell if it helped? A day? A week? A month? I have gotten really good PE where it is at, it just looks bleached and pale to me. The third page of the thread earlier shows a picture of it. It pretty much looks like that now, just slightly bigger.

    Thanks!

    Edit: My params are:
    amm, trite, trate = 0
    phos <.5(stupid API test kit)
    SG 1.025
    Calc =460
    DKH 10

I also should add that I am finally getting all the cool things new reefers love: pod explosion, coralline on the glass, etc... It's exciting!

Yes too much light IME. I had 6 T5HO and bleached softies, LPS and less light needing SPS. Take 2 tubes out and move the frogspawn to the bottom.

under 6 x T5 lamps, Im confident that the frogspawn would have much better coloration
down near the base of the reef

IME - you could see signs of coloration improvement in about 1 week ( I have with a Lobo and a brain recently that arrived in my tank slightly bleached due to the lighting in the LFS tank they came from, both of these displayed signs of color up within 1 week and have continued to improve since then )

Ok, I moved it to the sandbed in a slightly shaded position. Would that work in lieu of removing bulbs? At some point in the near future, I would like to try some SPS and I believe I will need those extra bulbs.

Look at my build thread on the last few pages, those pics are using 4 bulbs. That is a good placement in slight shade. My colors have improved since going back to 4 bulbs.

+1 on partial shade being a good idea , should you wish to use all 6 lamps

I have a torch at present under a Korallia, clone on the right hand side of my tank

this helps with both shading from the light, and also the area directly underneath wavemakers is often one of the lowest flow areas in a reef tank

I knew you where going to say that

    Steve

moderate flow is best for LPS corals IME
The tentacles/ polyps should move about, but not look they are being pushed / forced into 1 direction constantly
