ok so as some of you may already know i took my 22 gallon cadlight down, bleached the rocks, and cleaned the tank spotless. Keep in mind that i used nothing but tap water throughout this whole tanks life (previous). So, i bleached the rocks in tap and let them dry without rinsing them in ro/di. Does that mean the phosphates are still on them? where else should i take precautions to make sure this previous horrific algae problem doesnt come back to haunt me? fyi, im investing, before i set up this tank again (meaning filling it with water), in an ro/di filter and a phosphate reactor. what other precautionary steps can i take so my tank is algae free the 2nd time around? here is my expenses graph and chart... these are the last and final things i have to save up for (big, expensive equipment or that is only online) and then ill start putting the tank together. I mean i already aquascaped and everything just need to add sand and water. but tell me what you think.

    thanks,
    ryan

EDIT: i plan on meeting my $265 total by sunday, for i am doing numerous things this week to rake in the cash ;D

EDIT 2: For the 3 items you see with the $4.20 shipping, those are all from the same web site so i just took the overall shipping total and divided it by 3

i would put the rocks back in water and use baking soda to make sure there is no bleach left over let it sit for a couple of days and then rinse/dry you should be ok. you are not really removing po4 by nuking the rocks you are just removing all life including the algea.

just to clarify, after i bleached the rocks i hosed the rocks down with loads of pressured water and then let them soak in water and then dumped and then refilled the bucket and then dumped it and refilled it and so on, so if thats what you were concerned about, thats taken care of.

well if your happy with the rock and are confident that all of the bleach is removed i think you will be fine. with the new ro filter and po4 reactor you should be good. i only run phosguard in my filter (rsm 130) and have no nuissance algea. as long as you dont over feed you should come out better this time. what were ur po4 levels at?

i think you have to let them sit for a month in water so it can leech out... not positive on that one though :/
