I've recently got my first fish (a false percula) for my 55 and will add another in a week or two. I was considering adding a goby or blennie after that. I had settled on a LawnMower Blennie but have read about food issues with them. I also liked the Diamond Goby but I read he constantly stirs the sand and makes the water cloudy.

What does everyone suggest for a 3 month old tank (with some very cured rock)?

No blenny right now just to make sure he is able to live for a long time. Consider a lawnmower in another 3 months. It all depends on what you wanna add. Adding a watchman and pistol now would also be a good idea. They are fun to watch. The diamond goby grows big so it's recommended for big tanks only.

It all depends what you want: swimmers, diggers, cave dwellers, hoppers, etc.

Well blennies are going to occupy the mid-water column and gobies the bottom of the tank more than likely.

If I were you and I was planning a very peaceful tank I would go with a yasha hase goby with a pistol shrimp. Any boisterous tank mates and that goby will just hide till feeding time so I'd make a different choice in that case. There are many cool new gobies and blennies out on the market now so it shouldn't be too hard to find one you like.

I'm curious what feeding issues you heard about the algae blenny though. The only issue I have with any of mine is their strong desire to constantly be the center of attention.

Well, IMO the food issue with the lawnmower isnt 100%, my little guy was my first fish 3 years ago. He eats anything, i feed him formula 2 to give him his greens...hes a great fish with lots of personality.

I have a Lawnmower blenny and he eats everything. He prefer pellets over algae. He also eats like a pig, his tummy is always round. Cool fish! He stay at the bottom or on rocks all the time.

Yup, the Lawnmower is a little pig...but you gotta love his dog-like face.

I had done a little searching on these boards b4 I posted this message and it seemed like the opinion was that the lawnmowers needed a lot of algae and could be finicky eaters (not eat flakes or pellets). A few people had said they lost a few of 'em to starvation, I don't want that to happen!
That being said, the lawnmowers seem like a fish I would really like to try at some point. They have a cool look and seem to have a lot personality. I don't want a fish that is going to hide all of the time.

You guys are slowly talking me into the Lawnmower. I do have established live rock and seem to have plenty of brown algae ! I will wait another few months before he gets added if I decide to go with him.

Somewhat off topic, if I wanted to add a Flame Angel and a Yellow Tang to the tank, which would you add first? Any preference as far as territorial, etc?

LOl, well that's definitely not the case for any of the ones I have ever kept. All readily accepted foods. I can't say for certain whether or not the one I have in my own 180 takes the pellets I feed but only because I never cared to sit and watch him.
