Blenny compatibility

I have a lawnmower blenny, about 3" long, and was wondering if a scooter blenny would be OK with it.

 

Scooter blenny's are actually not blenny's. They are a part of the dragonette family. I would go to Aquarium Fish: Tropical Freshwater Fish and Saltwater Fish for Home Aquariums they have a compatability chart that might help you. Hopefully someone else can chime in.

 

They should get along fine. Like nemo mentioned, they're not the same species so there shouldn't be any compatibility issues.

Be careful with any type of fish that is in the same family! Aggression will result if not a mating pair!!! Even then, their may be no love lost if one gets beaten up by the more dominant one.
I just had a couple Firefish go at it and lost both of them due to their injuries. The had been fine for the first month or so, so I thought they were a pair...guess not as far as I am concerned!

 

Er how estb is your tank

Scooters are big feeders of the sand critters and will starve to death rather quicky if not fed enough live food.
Mine seemed to like the frozen foods but really liked frozen cyclops,
good luck be sure it doesen't get thin.Ask the LFS if it will eat frozen ask him to demonstrate.After a couple months mine starved and I tried to supplement his feedings. I even ordered live critters online to no avil, maybe a year old tank with lots of fine sand.

I'm still undecided. Actually, I saw one cool fish, I think it was a blenny, it would get a mouthful of sand and then start chugging it out behind it's head, through its gills I think. I don't know what it was but it was neat to watch.

 

jetenginemech, that fish that you said would get a mouthful of sand and send it through its gills is most likely a watchman goby... i saw one at the LFS and was instantly hooked! from what the LFS guy told me, they like to focus on one area of sand, and make a nest, looks like a big crater! but besides just doing that to make a so-called nest, they filter out food particules through the gills... its how they eat... pretty amazing, if you ask me... just as amazing as how clownfish are the only ones immune to the toxins of a anemone

 

I'm not sure it was a watchman as I don't believe that they sift sand. They do a lot of housework on their burrows though and often move sand around by grabbing a mouthful and spitting it out away from the burrow. Most likely, what you saw was some soft of sandsifting goby, like a yellow headed sleeper or dragon goby. They actually eat the bugs out of the sandbed and usually can't live on flakes alone.
