We got a sailfin blenny for our 20g and he is finally starting to come out of the rocks now but he is not eating. He kisses the glass but there is no algae in my tank...that I can visibily see! When I put the seaweed strips in or spirulina flakes in the tank he doesn't go after it. What do I do? I really don't want this guy to starve to death.

How long ago did you get the fish? Try rubberbanding a piece of the seaweed strips to a piece of rock and drop it on the sand near where the fish hangs out.

They can be shy at first about coming out to eat so the rock trick usually does it. I will also put a rubber band around my cleaning magnet and put seaweed on it so I can keep raising it a little each day.

Have you tried flake formula 1 food? Also your blenny may in fact be eating algae on and in between your rock work that you aren't able to see!
Keep an eye on it, try what the other reefers have suggested and/or possibly try a different kind of seaweed(green, brown, purple, red)!
There are many frozen foods which contain beneficial algal/seaweed in the food along with protein rich food stuff such as Mysis shrimp and brine, crab, krill, clam and squid for the other fish in your tank as well.

Try feeding frozen formula 2 spirulina cubes and formula 2 flakes. Brine shrimp and mysis may entice him to eat as well but will not sustain it. Was it eating in the store? Always ask to see a fish eat in the store. If its not eating then don't buy it.

    HI,
I buy that SUSHI wrap dried kelp for my tangs LM blenny the angels love it too ps they love it as long as its dried not the cooked version.
And a package is usally only a buck or two, my best friend at my favorite LPS told me about it its made by the same people who package that expensive stuff they sell and its safe .
