Hey guys, I'm hoping someone can help me. something is going on with my tank and I have no idea what it could be. I'm losing fish and my corals are looking a little off. my zoas wont open, and I think my clown fish has just gone blind. He was starting to hang out outside of the current up towards the top of the tank but he was still eating. Today he wasn't swimming much and when I fed him the food would hit him in the face as if he couldn't see it. at first I thought something else was wrong so I decided to take him out and take him to my LFS hoping he would recover. Then I was putting things together..can't see food, not swimming, didn't even try to avoid me catching him in the net. could he have gone blind? My LFS has tested for numerous things in the water and everything is dead on except a small trace of free ammonia. What would cause this? I thought maybe the filter on my DI filter was leaking causing something? I'm completely loss and hope someone can help me out.

    Thanks.

How old is the tank? Ammonia isn't good at all.

Everything is probably stressed over the ammonia. What exactly was the "trace amt?" Clowns will swim like that when they are stressed. How long ago did you start losing fish? Did you remove the dead fish right away? Ammonia could have built up from one dead fish, then stressed everything else. Do you have any prime or amquel?

The tank has been up for about 8 years, its a 46g bow with 60ish lbs of rock, just have a HOB filter. The ammonia build up is possible since there is a fish that I cant find. But I don't know what led up to everything taking a crap on me. I lost 3 fish this week, It all came out of nowhere.

I would just worry about getting the ammonia down. i think prime lowers ammonia and so does amquel. If your only getting a trace amt when testing then you could have already had your ammonia spike, which caused more fish deaths, and now your almost done with your "mini-cycle" and everything is still stressed out over it.
