Not sure where to post this, thought I'd try here.

Anyways in the mess of setting up and then tearing down and re-setting up a tank, I used my bathtub for rinsing etc (I live in an apt...no hoses available). Long story short, the tub I used received a spillage of sand/crushed coral and is now blocked and moving at a very slow pace.

I was wondering if anyone else has done this before, and if so did you find any products that would break down the blockage safely? I don't wanna call a plumber or the apt manager just yet, as I risk a fine, charges, eviction...who knows

    Help please?

Can try a drain clearing product, I'm not sure if it will dissolve the sand or not, but aside from taking apart the drain or trying to snake out the drain (this will more than likely work if you can find a drain snake) I'm not sure what else to do.

EDIT: I have seen one called one second plumber, it blast air through the drain, it's cheap and should do the job.

probably clogged the trap under the drain, need to get a small plumbing snake and run it thru the drain to the trap and break thru the clog. If you have an access panel to reach the tubs plumbing it may be easier to take it apart and clean it out.

I don't really have any access to the plumbing....and the drain forms a cross at about 2" deep, so a snake is gonna be hard to squeeze in there....I found a produce called "liquid fire" and someone told me it's great and made of muratic acid. I used an entire bottle in intervals, and it helped a tad....but not even a good sized dent

the problem is those products are not likely to dissolve the sand, they are designed to disolve hairballs, not clumps of calcium based sand.

Looks like a plumber may be your only option. Do you know of any or have any friends of friends that could take a look at it? I REALLY doubt and draino like cleaner will have any effect on a blockage of crushed coral.

Fill the tub, pull the plug, and then plunge violently with a toilet plunger.
The plunging dislodges the plug and the force of the water flushes it through the lines into major diameter pipes.

+1 to this..if only I knew how many times I've clogged the bathtub drain with sand. Done the above with success.

As a last resort (because this might not do much) you could try pouring vinegar down the drain. It won’t completely dissolve it, but it might loosen it up.
