    Hi Guys,

I am wanting to block the light over my corner overflow. I currently have a frame with screen mesh over the top of my tank. I have some left over acrylic that I was going to cut to shape and paint black , and glue to the frame. Before I did that, I wanted to see if anyone had any other ideas that may be even more simple. I also wanted to make sure the paint I have is reef safe. It is rustoleum plastic paint. The painted section will be on top only but wanted to be sure. Thanks!!!

    Regards,
    Ivy

That should work. I dont see any issues. Why are you wanting to block the light?

    Agreed

Probably so algae doesn't grow in the overflow

    Thanks Guys,

Inwall hit it right on the head. I would like to not have to worry about cleaning the area behind the overflows. It is hard to get in there and was looking for an easier way. Thanks!!!

just make sure you don't make it even harder to get in there... as soon as you do is when a fish or something will get in there and you'll have to access it... isn't there a law about that? murphy maybe.

Thanks for the tip. My plan is to glue it to the top of the removable frame that I already have made. It should come out with no problem when I remove the screen. If I get it made, I will post a picture to show what I mean. Thanks!!!!

I figured as much but was still curious. We all do different things for different reasons. Take a pic when its installed I would like to see what you came up with. I put egg crate over mine but that was after my pink tail trigger somehow ended up in there and it took me an hr to fish him out. I figured I would stop that.

I get filter pads and cut it to the size of the openings. Extra filtration and then all I have to do is replace it when dirty.

Thanks for the idea. I just snapped some pictures of the completed project. I think that it turned out fairly well and seems to do the job. It stayed glued to the frame, so it comes out when I lift off the frame. Now lets see if the algae still grows.
