I have a 10g sump for my 20g nano. I've made a section divided by eggcrate to house some chaeto as a semi-fuge. The light I have is a cheap $5 clip on floodlight type thing, with a compact flourescent flood light. My skimmer is in-sump as well, and I'm trying to figure out what to do to block this light from hitting my skimmer and growing algae in it, therefore lowering its effectiveness. Any ideas?

Here is what it looks like in there....since this pic I have removed the protector plate around the bulb, maybe I should put it back?

Looks like its really tight in there. If light is a problem you could wrap the skimmer in something or paint it on the "light side" with Krylon Fusion -- reef safe paint generally used for overflows.

I thought of that but was going to use it as a last resort...thank you though. Any other thoughts?

yeah, you will need to squeeze in a sheet of dark plastic to block the light - or jsut deal with cleaning the skimmer more often.
