    Hi Guys:

I have two clowns I bought about a week ago, both who are tank raised. They're big guys and act really healthy. My only concern is that one of them appears to have a "bloody lip." When we picked him out at the pet store he looked as if he had an extremely grumpy face, so we got him- thought it gave him character. I'm now beginning to think his face/lip was that way for a reason (the lip had no redness when we bought him).

Now the redness on his lip as increased and it's also been growing a bump (which is clear). He almost looks like a reverse unicorn... Anyways, here are the pictures that I could take, they're not the best.

I'm wondering if it's worth keeping him or taking it back to the fish store for a hopefully healthier one?

    Thanks

If you keep your params good it should heal up, but it could be due to a past infection or something like that.

+1. It really could be from anything, maybe even he rubbed it raw picking at the rocks. As long as he is still eating, I wouldnt worry too much. Good params, healthy diet, and time would be the best thing for him

Sounds like he is making ready to lay eggs. the male gets obsesses with cleaning a spot and likely, as packleader said, rubbed it raw.

Thanks for the input. I've only had him for about a week and the raw lip has come to have a big clear bump on it now. He does eat tiny pieces of the mysis shrimp, I'm assuming enough to keep him going.

The water params are good. I have 1 peppermint shrimp and 1 skunk cleaner in the tank along with some hermits and snails. I don't the shrimp did anything to it...?

He was also in the tank alone at the pet store. I got the clowns from the same store, but different tanks.

possible it was fighting with another clown so they separated it from another. I had the same issue with a pair a while back and one of the fish's lips were so swollen it could barely eat. After a few days the swelling went down and everything was fine - I wouldn't worry bout it too much but keep an eye to make sure they are getting along or you may have to separate them

They seem to be getting along. I'll keep a closer look. I also didn't mean to post this in Tropical Fish. Oops!
