moorish idols are extremely hard to keep, because they are EXTREMELY hard to feed, and chances are there is something missing in their diet in an aquarium that you just can't supplement. I agree to STAY away from them, unless you have a mature 500+ gallon tank.

Also, love the clowns, if all of them got along, I would have one of each species. (Ive heard of some people having luck with 3+ species at once).

No such thing as a reef safe butterflyfish. Some are safer then others. Butterflyfish eat (this varies per species) anemones, corals, shrimp, crabs and snails (sessile inverts).

Moorish Idols should never be kept in a home reef tank. Thats another fish that 90% of those collected die before they get to the store sell.

Just to add, if you have 4 clowns and they were not pairs when you got them.... You might end up with A:4 females, B:1 female, 3 males, C:2 pairs,D:1 pair and 2 dead fish. All juvenile fish get along, its when they turn into adults that you have to worry about.

I had them at the LFS in their own sectioned off tank for 4-5 days so the black ones seemed to have gotten to know each other a bit.. and the Orange clowns I've had for 6 months or so and are definitely a mated pair now... so I'm kinda curious as to what the outcome will be.. the black clowns are definitely very young.. but so far so good :]

this leak on the overflow is driving me bananas.. it doesn't actually leak.. its just enough to build up salt on the bottom of the drain pipe and hose.. going to have to block off the overflow and drain it to refit a new fixture for the drain pipe.. thats this weekends project.. sooo no new fish for me until thats fixed.. what was the consensus btw? I know butterfly fish aren't reef safe so i guess they're out.. (booo) I kind of want something thats not going to bother the clowns at all.. so i'll prolly just stock up on random gobies :]

if you want a moorish idol you may want to consider a black and white butterflyfish. it looks almost identicle to the moorish idol but is much easier to keep. however it is not reef compatible.
