+1 on this. I had a black background for a long time, got tired of it, and flipped the paper backing around. Now I'm loving the blue. But I may change back at some point. Why lock yourself into only one background by painting?

i have blue and black vinyl. i put up blue, took a week before i decided NO, and went black. then i didnt have a good way to secure it so i just left it off for awhile and it makes a very insignificant difference with it on or off. im sure with a ton of coral though the black would make it pop more than any other color.

If you are not going to clean/scrape off the coraline and algae from the background it really doesn't matter. eventually It's going to be covered in coraline and other fun stuff.

If you like a lot of blue light, then def go with black.

Mine is blue and i really regret not going with the black. the blue looks good until all your rocks are covered in coraline. now everything is blue and purple. boo

I go black paint. I don't clean the back wall so blue looks filthy in a short time if it isn't cleaned, with black you don't even notice it.

I'm digging the black background on my new tank. The overflows and powerheads blend better.

i put up the black paper and it looks sweet, i figure painting it would be more durable but like others said it will be coraline in no time
