Hi, Just got a nice, medium-large blue carpet anemone, along with 2 small Ocellaris clowns. Tank: 29 gal Bio-cube nano, c-pac in sump protein skimmer in the middle chamber, 30 lbs LR, 2 peppermint shrimp, lots of cleaner crew. Light: Coralife clamp on 150 w MH. This is my first carpet anemone, and some of my questions are the flowing: wave flow/water current (currently using a maxi-jet 400) along with the return output of system. I can't seem to find a vertex but what amount of flow does this species of anemone require? So, far its been 24 hours and 2 small clowns have not yet hosted. I placed the anemone yesterday centre stage, I assume he/she will decide where it wishes to eventually stick. Any thoughts/ tricks? How often to feed the anemone? Any tips, comments, suggestions would be appreciated? Have I missed anything? Any specific water parameters this species prefers? SG= 1.025.

    Best,

Can't say I've ever seen a blue one before- would like to see a pic. :D

Carpet nems in general can get enormous and easily fill your tank, especially if over-fed, so you want to be careful with that. A small bit of meaty food two or three times per month should be plenty.

As for flow, 25 - 30x turnover (725 - 670gph) should suffice; it will find a spot where it's comfortable. Your lighting should be plenty, BTW.

Your parameters with any good brand of salt mix will suffice; stability with low nutrients will be the most important issue, there.

And yes, it may take a few days to fully acclimate itself to it's new environment.

Your biocube must be filled if its a med to large carpet. Especially all the blue ones I have seen are quite large, at least a foot in diameter to bigger. Your lighting is good in that sized tank. Keep stable clean water conditions and weekly to bi weekly feedings should keep it happy.
    Again pics are a must.

As per speeding up your nem acting as host for the clowns this is a tough question. Tbh they might never touch it. Some have had success putting a pic of clowns being hosted beside the tank(I tried this for myself, no luck. I am pretty sure I scared the crap out of my clowns because of this). Other than at only time will tell.

Maxi Mini Carpets Don't host clowns. Sorry.

Maybe it's another type of carpet that does?

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
Absolutely no ammonia or nitrite, low nitrates.

Mod flow, intense lighting, which you have.

I have had this anemone in the same size tank, and it did fine but outgrew the tank in about 6 months.

An image of your anemone would be great to get the exact ID.

Carpets have an extremely strong sting so let the clowns come to it. In that size tank you really have no room for other fish and the anemone. Any other fish types will eventually become food for the anemone.

Congrats, I would love to see pictures.
