I got this soft coral that is now about 12 inches under my 150 watt MH Phoenix 14K bulb. In the LFS it was more blue. In the pic it looks like it is blue but in person it looks more muted purple like coraline algae color. If I moved it now to the bottom of the tank will it get its blue back?

I call Vivid Aquarium.com and they tolde me more than lighting is probably turning more muted purple in color is due to higher nutrients. I have been feeding more recently. Can I reverse the color process though with feeding less?

I have the same problem with some Blue snowflakes.. That are no longer blue..
higher nutrients may be something to look into..

Do you run a skimmer..?? I also overfeed.. I need to hook my skimmer up..
Let us know if you find out more..

    Good Luck, Larry

Mine have stayed quite blue under about 3 watts / gal. They have also spread like crazy. The ones that have migrated to the bottom of the tank do look lighter than those near the surface.

I belive it's something to do with our water..??
I have right at 8 watts per gal.. 476 watts on a 60 gal..
They were as blue as can be for a week or so.. Still growing very good..
Now a purplish.. has to be an trace element, or due to higher nutrients..
    Who knows..??
But Adam and I are working on this..
    But, thanks for the info..

I moved my colony to the bottom on the sand in the corner and it started getting hair algae(a form of bryopsis I think) on the rock poking out of the polyps. Last night I saw a hermit crab on it and the polyps were closing up and the ones that were closing were looking more blue. I will take it out next water change and scrub the areas with the algae with a soft toothbrush. I must have lower flow in that area of the tank and the polyps are not allowing the rock to get flow.

The change in color from the LFS to your house could be the spectrum of your lights. The higher the number the bluer the look.

My coral looked aqua clue in LFS under 20K bulbs and stayed blue for a few days in my tank under 14 K Phoenix which looks like 20k bulbs but turned more purple in color. The polypa are fully open now. In the LFS they were slightly closed.
