    Hello,
I set up a quarantine for my blue hippo before introcing him to my DT. I use a sponge I had in my DT in the filter and used water from my Dt in the quarantine.
The Hippo looks great but he looks like he is breeding fast and keeps going to the top to take a breath(looks like).
I have a hob filter and a small pump for oxygen.

Should I put him in my Dt
    WHat is happening?
I thought quarantine was the way to go but Im affraid that he is not liking it there

    Breeding fast or breathing fast?

I assume breathing based on the rest of your post. Thinking there may not be enough filtration/surface agitation in the QT ..

It is a dry heat, yeah right !

Yes you need to do a water change to the QT. Make sure you match temp, sg and pH as close as possible. You should probably do sm water changes pretty regularly.

Ammonia is the bi-product of the fishes metabolism, unless you have somethng to convert it to nitrates or do routine water changes until the tank becomes stable you will have a certain degree of ammonia. If you can use fresh sw that would be better. But if you have to do a small water change from the DT might be better than nothing right now.
    What is the ammonia level?

    0.25 for ammonia
Do you think The ammonia stress him out to break out with ich?

Yes, ammonia and stress of a QT and the tendency for this type of fish to develop ich or become symptomatic. Ammonia essentially burns the gills, hence the difficulity breathing.
