My blue hippo tang has been sticking himself to the side of one of my Koralia 4s. He swims up to the side of it and sticks his body next to it and hangs vertically to the side for minutes at a time. Is this normal? anyone seen this before?

Blue tangs do lots of funny things. How much live rock with hiding places do you have in your tank? He may just be using the powerhead as his preferred hideout.

There is now about 180 lbs of rock and a couple of spots he likes to hide in. He would be able to have more but he is pretty big, about 7 inches. You should see this lol. I am watching him now, he just hangs there next to the powerhead like its a nice massage, it is funny

Hi, it could be in the early stage of ick. Some fish try to get flow to stop the itching and sooth the irritation.

It could be Ich. It also could be a Hippo Tang being weird. Both things are very common for Hippo Tangs.

Most likely its just the hippo being a hippo. If tangs weren't quirky enough, hippo's are by far the worst. That's why I love them! Wait till yours starts playing possum and making you think its dead. Oh yes. Mine likes to nap on its side on the sand bed on occasion. Sleeps upside down in its hidey hole every now and again too. Even watched my mated pair of clowns enough to the point where it imitates there behavior with my blenny, all the way to rubbing against him and doing the clown wiggle.

Don't want to scare you but I have witnessed several fish get fatally stuck the side of Koralia 4's.

the fatal koralia in my tank was a koralia 3, plus that was only a 3.5-4" fish.

    what size is your tang?
