Glad to see the tang is doing well. However, I would recommend not doing it for that long again.

This almost matched my blue tang exactly. He hated quarantine, but loved the display tank as soon as he hit the water.

thats what you do for fresh water dips. IMO 30 minutes it pushing it but anything less then 10 usually wont get rid of anything. also ask yourself this, whats more stressful? freshwater bath for 30 minutes or being eaten alive by ICH. (for those that dont know ICH slowly eats your fish, thats what each of the white dots are)

No it can not be done, but if you insist that it can be done that proves to myself why you did such a thing to a BT to begin with.

Might I ask you if you understand what pH is and how SW pH and FW pH are very different things altogether?

There are far better ways to "treat" a fish before it's introduction to your main display tank. FW dips are fine, IF they are done correctly, and of a very short term, however, this is not the case here.

We can bash this topic from here to eternity, but I promise you this- 99% of reef keepers do not acclimate/treat fish as you have done.

I will be happy for you if the Blue Tang survives and does well- proves mother natures critter's are tough.

As for Ick, to the other post presented- I see, so you would give chemo to yourself - just in case you might get cancer, or, take anti-biotic's to prevent something you might get?

Tangs, when overly stressed get ick, not when they are happy (unless intoduced by some other factor)- this is well known, stress is considered the primary cause for ick, so tell me- was this BT stressed using the O/P's methodology, or would a quarantine tank be a far better choice?

Q/T- I surely think so. And BTW, I have two very happy Blue Tangs- in the same tank- search this forum, you will see pic's of my 6 tangs.

Edit: perhaps this will help you understand where I am comming from- http://ga.water.usgs.gov/edu/phdiagram.html

Congrats the tang is doing well. I have read about people doing a freshwater dip as introduction like you said. More so if they just didn't trust the store. They'd also do quarantine for 12 weeks and then add the fish. But to me that is stressful enough. My tangs get ich when I clean the tank or water change. Bit within a day they are healthy again.

I've never even used a quarentine tank in my 20 + years of doing this. I rely on a good (salt water store only) with a good reputation and studying the fish and checking for obvious problems at the store. Then I use a drip system that last 3 hours. Then he is in the tank. Have never lost a fish other than to accidents due to power heads and wrong fish with wrong fish mates, but I can count on one hand in 20 years. My hippo tang has been around for 5 years in my 90 and does well with his yellow and Kole tank mates. Yes, they are especially shy and timid. Even after 5 years of feeding him he is still the last one to come out and eat. And yes, they tend to lay horizontally during dormant periods or if they get stressed. I'm glad he is doing well.
