i don't think it's lack of respect EVERYONE here and i mean EVERYONE has been helpful since day one of my attempt at reefing. There is no need to get defensive just take the advice people give it has saved me from making mistakes like a 30 min fresh water acclimation! It's like buying a fresh water fish and acclimating him with saltwater for 30 mins!

I bought my hippo and used some of the water that he came with and dripped my tank water for about 30 mins No deaths to date. and that was after taking the acclimation advice from fellow reefers on 3reef!

First off, let's not get all worked up.. Second, since when is anything on the web written 100% correct?? Garbage in & you'll get garbage out! Also, make sure you understand what you are reading. Not saying you are dumb, but most of these reads are writen by so called doctors & scientists. They can't explain in layman's terms. Myself like others on here have gone back & forth on discussions. Here at 3reef we all try learn from each others "mistakes" & always stride to improve. Trust me, some of us have been very luck on our mistakes, while we have seen other crash gorgeous systems.

Trust me, placing saltwater live stock in freshwater for long periods of time (example 30min) is a VERY bad idea! When it is referred as a dip, it is to help live stock that is sick and even at that 5-10min the most & that depends of the live stock.

I have no idea how big your setup is, but I have THOUSANDS in mine & countless hours! Take a peek at my 90gal build thread and you'll see the 10x9 room that I built just to house my equipment. So, my system is VERY important to me.

I would recommend buying your live stock from a trusted supplier. My LFS will NOT sell any fish until it has been quarantined for 2 weeks. Even at that, IMO anyone that is serious in this hobby, should have a QT themselves. Hey, things happen. I quarantine my new fish for 4 weeks in my QT. That is 6 weeks total.

What's the end result? Fish that are less stressed, live longer. Esspecially Tangs, I wouldn't be surprised if your Hippo gets ICH, just from this episode. So, I would keep a eye on it.

Best of luck and as we always say, have a question? Just ask.. ;)
