My hippo got sucked into the power head tonight.. it's so small that while it was doing it's crazy swimming - the power-head just sucked it right up.

after I got her out, she went to the bottom of the tank gasping.. i have her in QT now... /cry

she won't swim, just falls to the bottom. but still breathing and moving her fins.

I'm sorry fritts that is so sad! :bawling: My man laughs at me because I get all upset if one of my fish is injured or dies. My foxface almost died because it decided to sleep up against the intake of the powerhead and got stuck to it. When I found it that night he kept saying "it's going to die, I'm sorry let's just go to bed" because I was so upset. It was barely swimming and was gasping and kept falling to the substrate. What do ya know? My nutty foxface lived!

Well I was just sitting here and he finally came out of the rocks! Six days later!! Yay!!! I'm exited so I thought I'd share even though you all probably don't care. lol.

The fish is swimming kind of werid though, like he doesn't remember how. Seems healthy and not injured. Do these fish swim funny or has mine regressed from being in a rock for 6 days (and being purchased from a 4"x4" cube)?
Out for a couple minutes so I snapped a pic from a distance...

Got too close and... back in the rocks! (came back out when I got away though)

Cool, I am glad its getting more comfortable. And of course we care!
As for the swimming, it would be hard to tell without a video. The best way I can describe how a hippo swims would be kind of the same way a butterfly flies through the air? They do kinda have a unique swim to themselves

That's a good analogy for it's swimming... I'm sure he/she is fine. It's funny to watch it swim around for a few minutes and go back in the cave, doing this over and over, each time seeming a little more confident.

I wonder why I call all of my fish "he's" (except the one maroon I have that I know is a she) :) Maybe it's because I love my manly men unF unF and am outnumbered by Y chromosome in my house!

LOL, call it whatever you want. Its not possible to sex a hippo visually, so your guess is as good as anyone esles. Mine is a she ;)

HE seems to have a tiny bit of ich, either that or it's sand, hard to tell. Not suprised since 1. it's a tang 2. he's been hiding and stressed for a week.

Neither fish in the tank have found each other (the other is a Clarkii that rarely leaves HIS anenome) - it will be interesting to see how this goes.
