Blue leg hermits vs red leg hermits

for algae control and overall reef cuc member..

I just ordered 25blues and 10reds to add to my tank. I already have probly 60-70 snails, ceriths/nerites/nas/turbos
    and probly
    10-15 blues, 2-4 whites..

I just wanted to know if ordering the reds was a good option for me.. FYI: they are not scarlets.. these have more like brown legs with red tips and red antennas.. similar sized as blue hermits I guess..

anyone have these? if yes whatcha think about them?

and I think these reds are mexican if that matters any..

only thing ive noticed with my reds is that they have a fetish for killing snails for their shells that are 2000 times too big for the hermit. ive got a red hermit no larger than a dime carrying a snail shell the size of a half dollar lmao. in regards to algae i dont see much difference

ok.. they should be ok for me, because most of my snails stay on glass except ceriths.. but I do have quite a few empty shells laying around the ground..

From what I understand Paguristes digueti aren't as good algae eaters as Clibanarius tricolor and both aren't as peaceful as Paguristes cadenati.

IME, the blue legged ones are snail killers, and the red ones you have (mexican red legged) are less prone to kill snails for the fun of it.

I won't ever put blue legged ones in any tank I own again. Well, I do have some in my sump.

well for me seems like the crabs last longer than snails in my tank.. probly because they kill them.. :) before I had like 200+ snails, and 40 crabs.. Im going to try to have more crabs this time.. most of my snails dont go on rocks.. more on glass and sand.. I need my rocks cleaned..

For the last couple of years I try to keep my tank like I do my body.

With as few of crabs as possible.

LOL, in all seriousness, crabs tend to do crabby crappy things like the emerald that dismantled a perfectly healthy green maxima clam in my tanka while back. Yes, I caught that bugger and threw it in the sump.

If I can find that guy, I will take him over to Jerry's house to visit his queen trigger "BIG MOMMA".MVI_7306.flv video by barbianj - Photobucket
