This was my idea exactly Jason........
You could be wasting time/money on cures that don't work for certain types of nuisance macroalgae.

I have three blue legged hermits in my tank. Fun to look at, but not much use with hair algae. I pluck the algae out and starve it as much as possible. Not an ideal fix, but it works for me.

You may want to post a pic of what you see as HA-just to ne certain.
I have about 25-30 crabs 20 or blue leg, 5-10mexicans,4-5 reds, and 2-Electric Blue, 2-Halloweens and 3 emeralds

I wish I had less at times.

A good CUC will have quite the variety of crabs as well as snails, and all do their own little part.

Here is a good little read.

Pics of that algae will help us point you in the right direction!

Yep, thought my hermit was dead the first time I saw its moult. They tend to hide away during moulting and don't reappear for 4-5 days.

you need to check for nitrates ,phos. there has to be a build -up . do more water changes. what is your bio-load. if that dont work try agood skimmer or you can get it back to normal by adding a algae scrubber for a few months until all algae is all gone. santa monica has a really good thread on algae scrubbers
