Blue linckia is in trouble, maybe?

Today I was looking at my tank and noticed a wound on one of the legs of the linckia. I got him off the rock for a closer look and it looks like it was injured. The rest of his body and legs are okay and he seems real active and is moving a lot. There is a lot of white stuff around the wound, I fear it might be dying off. Any input? I left the cut limb in the tank, maybe it will grow off another star. At this point, should I remove the linckia or should I leave it alone?

I really have no clue. The only guy I'm suspecting is the CBS just because he is such an ass. Looks like something really took a bite, he then just detached that portion off. Really strange, I can't think of anything that could have hurt it, and no, I dont have Harlequin's in my tank... that I know of.

well...whenever it comes to star fish in tanks...its not always good news :(...if the star fish has a bacterial infections...its basically a goner.. cutting off an arm...will not save in like in the wild because they rarly regenerate arms in captivity...i would say watch it and just hope for the best, sorry :(

Take the arm out, It will not grow into another star.
If linkias propagated like that, and that easily, they would not be so hard to keep in a saltwater tank.

My Orange Linkia starfish seems pretty hardy. I had a Blue one before. Dont think I will get another. Good luck with your starfish.

Yeah, thanks. My blue linckia seems to be dying off. I have moved it into a new 20g tank, since it's a goner, I'm just gonna let him completely die off there. And yes, I have taken the arm out.

I noticed it was dying because it had another injury in another leg.

Ever seen it near any pumps in your tank?
I had an orange linkia that got seriously mutilated by my Tunze turbelle pump intake.

I hear that Linkia starfish are very demanding. Usually when a starfish has an injury like you described it doesn't recover. I've had it happen to sand sifting and blue linkia stars. However, to possibly get your hopes up, I have a red serpent star that basically lost half his body, and he survived, and grew it all back and is doing very well and still growing.

LOL, the blue linkia has been dead for over 2 weeks guys. No, I really think this guy was dying off because my tank could not support it. Although it lasted a good 2 months in good health, then spiraled into death as time went by. I want a smaller one and might consider one in a year or so when my tank matures.

My SSS died that way too, not getting one of those anymore, since I have my tiger tail.
