So I bought a blue spot yesterday, got him for a good price so I couldn't pass him up. As soon as I put him in he went to the back of the tank and started doing work on a hole(in the back thanks for nothing lol). So I thought everythig was fine.. So at 3 in the morning a noise woke me up.. Freaking guy jumped ship. I put him back in and he stared doing work on another hole, in the back, again.. I'm gonna have to figure out some type of lid to use w/o losing any light... I knew they were jumpers but didn't think it would have been that soon.. anyway just thought I would share.

Oh yeah, they are big jumpers for sure. If you search in the I Made This Forum, there are a lot of DIY covers....many types are quite inexpensive.

Well, I found the thread for you. It was a build thread by Linda (Cuttingrass). Unfortunately, all of her photobucket pictures are now gone. Can anyone else remember how she built that?

You could do a screen lid. The guy who did the 29 biocube to 65 gallon w/ custom rockwork shows how he did it for his tank. Unfortunately, his tank crashed a while back.

Use eggcrate. Cut them in half so you can lift the front half to feed and clean. I've never had salt creap on mine.

I built one using a plastic screen window frame and aviary netting and some extra plastic corners. Whole thing cost less than 15 bucks and was done in about an hour. Sorry, I didnt take pictures, but it was very easy.

Yes, two items of interest using an eggcrate. One, it'll cut your light down about 25%, and two, if your fish is small enough he'll jump through - trust me. Personally I like 1/4" clear mesh screen tops. You build a frame like you would for a window screen, using the same materials. Then just put the mesh onto the frame and roll in your spline. Usually you can find the mesh on eBay as it's a bit hard to come by in small quantities if you go searching for it in retail outlets.

im trying to find the thread now but someone had a DIY build thread on a cheap solution. it was going to your local hardware store picking up a screen window kit and cutting it down and sizing it appropriately to your tank for a lid. then you just use whatever sized mesh screen you want.

now after typing this i see others already suggested this so ill just go away....
