Trying to build a stock list for a Nuvo Mini 38 gallon reef tank that i am in the process of setting up. I really want to get a blue spotted jawfish and would like to build off of that. I know since i want it to be a reef tank, the stock list will be minimal, but i just want to get an idea of what else i can put in there. Also know that my sand bed will have to be on the deeper side and have plenty of rubble to allow the jawfish to make a burrow and keep the tank covered. I would def like to get a clown fish or two. Will a goby work as well, or would they compete for the same area as the jawfish? Thanks!

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
You will most likely have fights if you try a JF and a goby in that size of tank.

If you're not doing a lot of expensive corals consider a Dwarf Angel.

Sound like you've done your home work if you know they must have a lid. Great fish, they remind me of dogs for some reason.

They are awesome looking fish!! I've never actually owned one but have seen them on here and at the LFS. They have such entertaining faces. I wish I could find that post where someone had one and they were struggling with dinos and the jawfish was sitting there like "whoa dude, get rid of this stuff" ....don't worry, I know fish don't really talk ;)

I love the dwarf angels, very colorful and there are a few that are considered reef safe with caution (pygmy, flame, potter's, coral beauty). I also think you would be ok with a pair of clowns but minus the angel, I'm thinking it should be either or in your size tank.

Welcome to the hobby! As Corailline said, it sounds like you've really done your homework and this forum is a great place to get advice!

I just had a lengthy post typed up, and just had it all erased :( Well here we go again...

So I have had mine for about 7 months now:

Even though it seems you have done your homework, here are a couple links with info I posted for other members:

As far as corals go, I would stay away from Euphylias (Frogspawn, Torch, Hammer) as they do not do well with sand. I found out the hard way when my BSJ knocked the Frogspawn shown in the sand. It melted away in just a few days after that :(

Other than that, all of my other corals have been fine getting sand dumped on them. This includes Duncas, Acans, Trumpets, Cyphastrea, Green Slimer Acro, and a few Montis.

Just keep the tank cool, keep him well fed (include spirulina as mentioned in my link), give him plenty of caves, building materials, and just know that the tank will belong to him!

Would reef flakes or the mini reef flakes that i plan on getting be good for this fish?
