I have always loved these guys and was wondering others opinions on them. I do not think I can add one to my current setup but might attempt to at sometime. It is only 46gal with approx a 2inch sandbed. It would also be the last fish added which is kind of backwards as it seems it is suggested that they are added first, only thing that makes it a possibility is the fact that all my other fish are open water swimmers. A dwarf angel, 2 clowns, a melanarus wrasse, and a small blue hippo. With 5 fish I feel that I am already stocked well enough but my nitrates and phosphates remain at zero for the past 6months+ when testing with ATI. RedSea, and Hanna Checker so I guess I have not reached by bioload limit.

So what do you guys think of these little critters?
    Any long term success stories?
    Are they difficult to feed?
Do they do ok with a 3inch sandbed as some say or is 6inches really the bare minimum?
Do they disrupt the fuana of a sandbed like some gobies and sandstars or not?
Do they do ok with wrasses? My melarus is out in the water column all day and never hugs the sand or rock except picking for food really, but obviously it does sleep in the sand somewhere.

I think you may be correct. Finding dori will unleash a wave of blues in 10gal.

It is a temp situation and will be removed and either upgraded or sold once t gets more than 4 inches or so.

No, 3 Inches is fine, But leave some small Rubbles of rocks around the tank so s/he can use to make his or hers little burrow. I don't see any problems with the wrasse, As long as the wrasse isn't aggressive, They can be a bit territorial but not like some Gobies. Feeding could be a pain at first. You will need to leave some Mysis or some other live food near their burrows seeing as their very shy critters. As they become comfortable with their surroundings they'll come out more often and make feeding more easy :)

Their cool little guys with a big personality. Sometimes when I walk up to a Jawfish tank in my LFS The Jawfish open their jaws as if to scare me away ha, But I'm sure there are other meanings to this.

    Enjoy :)

Super, super, super cool fish :) They are pricey, that's for sure. How long do they live in captivity?

Kind of random thing but I am subscribed to Mr. Saltwater Tank - one of my first findings when I came back to the hobby :) - he actually does provide some interesting information although he's so corny lol.. Anyway, he just posted an interview he did with Julian Sprung and gave a tour of Julian's tank. It was great.. Just thought I'd mention! I've read some parts of his books, brilliant guy. I'll see if I can post a link but should be easy enough to google.

Answers in red above! Besides the above, most suggest keeping them in cooler temps. I keep my tank between 76-77. Make sure it is fed spirulina on a somewhat regular basis. Mine loves spirulina flakes. A completely covered tank is a must. If you have very fine sand, your tank will be a sandstorm at all times.

Let me know if you have any other questions though. I do love mine, even with all of the sand moving shananigans :p
