hello guys! i recently purchase a blue tang to go in a 55 gallon that already had two blue damsels in it... after acclimation of the tang...i let him go in the tank... one of the blue damsel keeps attcking the tang... theres a lot of caves and rock work... and the blue tang is only a tad bit bigger than the dams!
would the damsel gonna keep attackin him til he dies??
is this a permanent problem or would he eventually leave him alone ??
can this be a cause of my blue tang dying???
    cheers guys!

Damsels can be little bung holess. Especially if the other fish isn't aggressive enough to stand up for itself. And yes they can kill your blue tang. The stress of being picked at and bullyed over time can cause your tang to get ich. Or the damsels could pick at his fins untill there is nothing left. When U acclimated the tang, did you shut the lights off? Do you have any coral? if not then you could re-aquascape as well. That will throw the damsels off and put them at sort of an even playing ground as the tang. Shut your lights off while you do it and leave them off for awhile. This will give the tang a better chance to get away and get a territory of his own.

I have two kinds of tangs and two kinds on dams
never even look at each other.

    Infantry has some good ideas.
    Maybe they will stop.

I have 5 damsels and 2 tangs, at first the damsels attacked the tangs they took a few chunks from their fins and bashed them on their sides if they went to close the their holes, after the first 3 hours it had all settled down and the tangs now bully the damsels and the damsels have learnt to leave them alone. The tangs have a razor they can use in defense and can be very savage when they want to be. If it persists in your tank and it doesn't look like the tang is trying to defend itself I would remove the tang.

It may take a week or more the tang has two ways to protect himself . There one on the left side and one on the right side not to worry they will leave him alone sooner or later . Now the stress will cause a little ich out break not to worry as long as its eating and as a rule this tang eats like a hog it will be fine just turn up the heater to about 80 to 81F and keep it stable for a few weeks .

On another note, That tang is going to quickly outgrow that tank... Needs a lot of space and a 55 wont cut it...

No problem, didn't want to come across as rude... Just be sure to do some research on the new additions before you buy, and your LFS may tell you anything to make a buck...

    Best of Luck
