Hi KJC - do you have any corals in your main tank - I know on another thread, we chatted about you getting some - if you dont have any corals? add the little dude straight to the main tank

if you do have corals and you have reef safe meds - add the little dude straight to the main tank

if you can get reef safe meds reasonable quickly - add the little dude to straight to the main tank

if you have any Garlic add some juice from this to the little guys (and any other fishes ) food as this helps to build up the immune system and helps the little dude, fight of infection


thats what I would do if it where my new little dude arriving tomorrow

hahahaha little dude- so have you been watching Nemo lately? JK I dont really have much coral- about 5 green polyps, 1 brown and a tiny mushroom (greenish/teal/purple) color so we havent really invested any money in coral but I have ich-attack and i can buy some garlic stuff from kroger tomorrow. Ill add him to the main tank and if he starts acting up Ill come back on here and ask for help

 

if he looks like he's getting a few spots then you can hit him with some ich attack. I think this is the right decision for ya.

QT or not

Look at him in the bag.should be clean and look good. look at eyes,scales,tail etc. All should look like a nice fish,,if not then add to a QT.but mostly you wanna add to your main.....if you have one yet. My main is IMO better then the LFS so i wanna get him in there ASAP. get him used to your main tanks temp+your salt lvl. after 2 days he should at least swim in a corner and after 3-4 he should be at least be swimming around 1/2 your tank. and after a week he should be fine. Let us know if you want.

I used to QT, but don't anymore. I just add straight to the DT. I converted my QT into a nano, added a few false percs and let it go. As stated previously, it's up to you, but I have had no problems myself. If your water chemistry is good and all is well with the tank, fish health follows.

Now the UV.....It is fine in the case of an outbreak, but I wouldn't run it 24/7. Kills the good along with the bad and, if used consistantly, can disrupt the balance of a tank IMO. I have one myself I used to keep hooked up. But I never had cause to use it. So when I upgraded, I just left it off. It is a great little tool, but if you keep your tank in order and get yourself into good habits ITO husbandry, I seriously doubt you will ever need it.

Dont mean to hi-jack but what about FW dip? I turned my QT tank into a FOWLR so now I FW dip all my tangs. then soak all food with garlic.

 

Some do this with success. I just don't like the undue stress to the animal.

 

Ok, Ive got him in the main tank and he is swimming around fine. My damsel is trying to hit him with her flipper but I think she is just flirting...jk shell leave him alone soon enough I hope. I bought some garlic juice from Kroger, how much do I put in with the mysis shrimp and/or other food?
