i bought a blue tang about a month ago, a few days after i got it, i saw it develope white spots, so just in case i moved it to my quarantine tank. watched it for a few days, spots got worse so started treatment. after treatment was done the tang looked great, nice bright blue. but i have never really seen him eat. now since i have had him for awhile and he had not died i assumed i have just not seen it, that he ate when not being watched. ive given him frozen brine shrimp and i put in algae strips for him to graze on. after a few more days of watching him he suddenly started swimming very eratically, swimming upside down, hitting the glas, doing circles, almost jumping out of the water, swimming with his mouth out of the water. and his face and forward belly have turned very pale and almost look withered. tank has no nitrates, no ammonia, salt content is about 1.021 ph is 8.1, temp is 82. i thought at first something got into the tank poisoning him, so i did a 30% water change and cleaned filters and replaced media (chemi pure). the erratic swimming got a little better, but still often swims with head out of water, swims like his back end is heavy and occasionaly speeds across the surface. and no sign of improvement in head or underside. any ideas on what is causing this or what to do?

I would say the SG is way low...and the heat is kinda high....depending on where the fish came from ..acclimation could have been difficult for him...Sounds like he is in severe distress..never seen him eat?

nope, watching after feeding or checking up during the day ive never actually seen him eat, but since i have had him for about a month, he would have died by now if he had not eaten at all correct? i had someone tell me to try soaking food in garlic then feeding, tried that once, still did not actually see him eat.

lowered salinity is a trick wholesalers and distributors use for keeping fish relaxed, 1.021 is fine. I would worry about internal parasites at this point but I'm not a vet so bump
